2 installments eyed for sponsor to pay cost of domestics’ return

‘Two weeks quarantine period of domestic workers mandatory’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: According to reliable sources, the government is making every effort to relieve Kuwaiti families and avoid overburdening them with the cost of bringing domestic workers back to the country, reports Al- Anba daily.

In an exclusive statement to the daily, the sources explained that one of the possible solutions is to divide the cost of return in two installments, so that the sponsor pays the price of the travel ticket first after accessing the online platform and recording the data of the domestic worker who is to return.

He pays the remainder of the cost after ensuring that the domestic worker has arrived in the country. Any emergency may occur, and the arrival of the worker may be delayed or there might be something that would impede his or her arrival. In such a case, it makes it more efficient for the sponsor to pay the second installment of the cost upon the arrival of the worker. This includes the costs of accommodation in the designated institutional quarantine center, food, and transportation.

Reduce
In order to reduce the cost, the government will open the way for more than one qualified establishment and company. The process will not be limited to one company. The government called on everyone to be reassured that the prices will be within the reach of Kuwaiti families.

Regarding the request to reduce the home quarantine period to one week similar to the workers of the Ministry of Health, the sources said, “The quarantine of domestic workers for a period of two weeks is mandatory based on the decision approved by the Cabinet. Regarding the health workers, they get one week due to the fact that they are under daily medical observation, which is not available for domestic workers.

The sources stressed that the two-week quarantine period is aimed to protect Kuwaiti families because the two-week period is enough for symptoms to develop in case the domestic worker is infected. When asked who will bear the cost of treatment if cases appear after two weeks, the sources replied. “The sponsor will not bear the cost of treatment. Treatment will be provided in government hospitals”.
