BEIRUT, Oct 18, (KUNA): Kuwaiti race driver Mishari Al-Thifeeri came first in his group at the MERC 2 (Middle East Rally Championship) international rally mixed-surface competition held in Cyprus Sunday. In a statement to KUNA after the win, Al-Thifeeri said that despite rough terrain and technical difficulties, the team was able to succeed.
He voiced pride and honor to be the first Kuwaiti racer to attain first place (3rd overall) for the sixth time and overcome struggles during such competitions under the circumstances of COVID-19 presented this year. Qatar’s Nasser Al-Kuwari is Al-Thifeeri’s co-driver (using Mitsubishi’s EVO 10 model) for the races over the course of two days, with the first day consisting of six stages and the second of four (200km event), which included 24 racers from six countries.
Al-Thifeeri was also champion in last year’s ME 2019 Rally, making this his sixth (2013, ‘14, ‘17, ‘18 and ‘19).
